The purpose of this newsletter is to update you on events that are
happening in the district, provide information to address issues or
rumors and provide you a forum to communicate with me on items of
interest. If you are receiving this e-mail you are either an East Valley
Staff member, you have signed up for this service, you have sent me an
e-mail or have had some form of contact that we think would cause you to
want this information. If you do not want to continue to receive this
information you may unsubscribe by clicking the link below or contacting
the district office.
Well the weather and the clocks have changed and that change is
signaling a transition in the school system. Our fall sports teams are
wrapping up their seasons. Girls’ soccer lost a hard fought contest but
our volleyball and football teams remain in post season contention. The
football team will play at Joe Albi Stadium at 7:00 pm tonight.
Beginning tomorrow at 1:00 pm our volleyball team will play at
Mountainside Middle School in the Mead School District.
We have continued to be busy since our last correspondence. One of the
highlights of the last two weeks was the meeting yesterday with the
Teacher Advisory Group. This meeting brings the newest and most veteran
teacher from each building to the table to discuss issues that are
facing the district. I continue to be impressed by the competency and
professionalism and dedication of this staff. We have had some very
frank and honest discussions and I am sure that many positive things
will come out of these meetings.
At the last board meeting the Board reviewed the graduation
requirements for the coming years. They adopted the School Improvement
Plan for East Valley Middle School. They also reviewed our alternative
learning plan policy. The Board passed a resolution to accept the voter
approved levy amount. They also engaged in routine personnel and
business actions and had a discussion about the upcoming levy and bond.
The replacement levy continues to take shape. At this point the Board
continues to lean towards a four year levy. The rate, projected to be
level throughout the four years, is estimated to be about $2.53 per
$1000 of assessed property value. This would be less than the current
rate per $1,000 of assessed value. The date for this election will
probably be February 3, 2009. More information will be available as the
plan continues to develop.
The Board continues to work on putting together a bond proposal. A
survey to gauge voter sentiment is being conducted. I have also been
working with the architect to ensure that the plan for the bond and
dollars needed to support the plan are valid. The Board will be seeking
more input on this subject and you are strongly encouraged to submit
your thoughts to the board members or to the superintendent.
I hope you will contact me if you have any questions or concerns about
issues facing the district. You can call me at the district office at
924-1830 or my home at 868-0087. You may also contact me via e-mail at
GlenewinkelJ at evsd.org. I hope each of you is having as much fun as I
am having. It is a privilege to be part of this learning organization.
John
